Rally on San Francisco: Mission Athletic Club Champions Public Court Access with First Ever Gala at The Great Northern
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 24, 2025
This fundraising event will not be your traditional gala: It will be a night to move, contribute, and celebrate community tennis
San Francisco, CA — Later today, the Mission Athletic Clubs (TMAC), an all-volunteer, community-driven tennis group with over 2,500 members, will celebrate its first-ever back-to-back fundraising celebration: the Rally Gala & Gala Rave, hosted at The Great Northern at 7pm tonight. Unlike a traditional sit-down gala, this will be a dance party for the general public. An evening to move, celebrate, and raise critical funds to keep community tennis thriving and free in San Francisco.
Already, the response has been remarkable. TMAC has raised $12,000 in advance of their gala, a major milestone achievement for its first fundraiser. These funds will directly cover court reservation fees, insurance, ball baskets, cleanup supplies, first aid kits, and more while also supporting the group’s extensive volunteer-driven community service projects.
“This gala isn’t just about tennis. It’s about protecting public space and community spirit in San Francisco,” said Prince Boucher, founder of TMAC. “Traditional tennis can feel pretty country club-ish,” said Boucher. “I wanted to bring a different kind of culture — for people wanting to play more casually.”
With the exciting Laver Cup on the horizon, there's tremendous momentum building for tennis in San Francisco. TMAC is stepping forward at this pivotal moment to unite the tennis community and preserve the legacy and future of tennis in our city. This presents a unique opportunity to build community connections and elevate the sport throughout San Francisco.
TMAC, an all volunteer community was forced to transition into a nonprofit after the City and Recreation & Parks approved a controversial $5 reservation fee for public tennis courts. TMAC must fundraise to not only cover the city’s non-profit reservation fees of $20 per hour, but also to sustain its growing calendar of community events. TMAC has already organized 150 sessions in the past 18 months. Demand is only increasing, and with the new fees, each meetup will now average $80 in costs.
“TMAC is the reason I’ve stayed in San Francisco,” said Kali Hall, a TMAC participant and volunteer. “TMAC has built something special, where friendships extend beyond the courts and in some cases TMAC has even replaced dating apps. Rally Gala & Gala Rave is more than a fundraiser, it’s a lifeline to our growing community.”
Boucher added, “The city may have approved privatizing public courts with a $5 fee, however, we refuse to let tennis become inaccessible. This gala proves that the community can rally together to protect the game we love.”
Rally Gala & Gala Rave will be a night to dance, contribute, and pay it forward. This fundraising party is where San Francisco’s tennis community and supporters can come together to ensure the game remains open and accessible for all.

FAQ
How does the application work?
We are inclusive and intentional about welcoming those who want to actively engage with their local community. We are each stewards of the TMAC experience and our communities at large (vs. people who just need a tennis partner). The short application form can be found above or below.
What if I'm a beginner?
That's okay! Be ready to have fun and learn. We have programs for beginners to advanced players!
How often do you play?
While our club hosts official games and events about 3x a week, members frequently connect for casual one-on-one or doubles matches—because the love for the game knows no schedule.
Does it cost any money to join?
TMAC was born from a shared love of tennis and community, not profit. While membership remains free, we thrive through the contribution of members' time, equipment, tennis ball donations, and a fee that covers costs for clinics and tournaments —keeping the community spirit alive both on and off the court.
